My collection, AYA, explores illusions and tensions of dark and light and translucence and opacity. Paradoxical feelings of weightlessness and solidity and delicacy and strength coexist through the collection’s minimalist designs and rectilinear inspirations from geometry and architecture. Fabric properties are simultaneously inhibited and exploited through invented textiles that are created with laser cutting, needle-punching, and melding. Varying transparencies and densities contradict and complement one another as the collection both dematerializes and emerges.
I also designed and created the collection’s bags using leather and my customized, laser-cut plexiglass purse handles.
